The tradition of exchanging paintings at the turn of the year, much like the custom of New Year's bows, is called 'Sehwa.' Ancestors would paint the Ten Symbols of Longevity-such as the sun, moon, mountains, water, rocks, pine trees, cranes, turtles, deer, and clouds-as Sehwa, wishing for each other's health and well-being.

This is the first exhibition of the new year at the Care Gallery, prepared with the hope that Samsung Seoul Hospital will become a place where the Ten Symbols of Longevity reside and that many people will recover quickly.

Baek Sun is the fourth artist of the third group selected through the "2025 SMC Care Gallery Exhibition Artist Recruitment." In this exhibition, Baek brings new life to the traditional Korean folk painting 'Ten Symbols of Longevity' by using geometric forms and vibrant colors to create a modern aesthetic. Baek commented, "The Ten Symbols of Longevity are a part of our traditional culture, symbolizing good fortune," and added, "I hope everyone will be healthy with the energy of the Ten Symbols of Longevity."

Park Heecheol, Director of Communications at Samsung Seoul Hospital and Professor of Radiation Oncology, who organized the exhibition, said, "Each element of the Ten Symbols of Longevity is depicted as if it is alive and moving on a canvas of brilliant colors, allowing visitors to feel vitality and energy." He added, "I hope that by enjoying this exhibition at your own pace, the new year will be an opportunity for everyone to be filled with health and happiness."

Meanwhile, since 2018, Samsung Seoul Hospital has been delivering joy and hope to patients, caregivers, and staff through the Care Gallery, a space for communication through art and culture.
