The Gyeonggi Provincial Government will be accepting applications for the 'Student Loan Interest Support Program for University Students' until February 13.
Eligible applicants include current university (including graduate school) students and unemployed graduates who have taken out student loans from the Korea Student Aid Foundation for tuition or living expenses.
Unemployed graduates may apply within 10 years of graduating (or completing) university, or within 4 years of graduating (or completing) graduate school.
As of the announcement date, the applicant or their direct family member must have resided in Gyeonggi Province for at least one year. Starting this year, additional requirements include a household income at or below the 8th decile (200% of the median income) or being part of a multi-child family (three or more children). The income criteria are based on data held by the Korea Student Aid Foundation as of the loan application date.
Once support is confirmed, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government will repay the student loan interest accrued over the most recent six-month period (from July to December 2025) on behalf of the applicant, resulting in the principal and interest being deducted from the Korea Student Aid Foundation loan account.
Applications can be submitted online or via mobile through Gyeonggi Minwon 24 (gg24.gg.go.kr).
If you consent to the joint use of administrative information, your resident registration abstract and health insurance qualification certificate will be automatically linked, allowing you to apply without submitting additional documents. However, if your residency requirements are not met, you must submit a family relationship certificate and the resident registration abstract of your direct family member.
The results for the first half of the year will be announced in June.
Kim Sunhwa, Director of the Youth Opportunity Division at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, stated, "The student loan interest support policy is designed to provide substantial relief from financial burdens for both current university students and young people preparing for employment after graduation. We will continue to expand support policies that young people can truly feel in their daily lives by consistently reflecting their voices."
Meanwhile, last year, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government provided 3.62 billion won in support to approximately 37,000 individuals through the student loan interest support program for university students.
