At least 10 people were reportedly killed in an explosion at a bar in a Swiss ski resort area on New Year's Day.
According to major international media outlets such as the BBC, an explosion and fire occurred at a bar in Crans-Montana in southwestern Switzerland at around 1:30 a.m. on January 1, 2026, resulting in at least 10 fatalities. It was reported that there were more than 100 people inside the bar at the time of the incident. Local media have indicated that the number of casualties could rise further.
The police are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. However, police reportedly do not believe the incident was an act of terrorism.
The accident site is currently under complete lockdown, and a no-fly zone has been established over Crans-Montana. Crans-Montana is a world-renowned ski resort village in the Alps, located about 40 kilometers north of the Matterhorn in Switzerland.
