Kang Sunwoo, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, who has been embroiled in allegations of receiving 100 million won in nomination funds, announced her intention to leave the party on January 1.
On the afternoon of the same day, Kang posted on Facebook, "I have already placed too much of a burden on the party and its members, and I cannot do so any longer," adding, "Once again, I bow my head in apology."
Kang stated, "Even if I leave the party, I will faithfully comply with all procedures required by the party," and added, "I will also actively cooperate with the investigation." She further said, "I would like to once again express my apologies and gratitude to the people and party members who have cared for and supported me."
Kang is suspected of having received 100 million won from a Seoul city council candidate during the nomination process for the 8th nationwide local elections in 2022. Kang has strongly denied the allegations, stating, "I would like to make it clear once again that I have never received any money."
