Russia Releases 'Putin Residence Attack' Footage... US: "Lacks Credibility"

Trump Also Shares Editorial Criticizing Russia

While Russia has released drone footage and maps to support its claim of a 'Putin residence attack' by Ukraine, both Ukraine and the United States have dismissed Russia's assertions.

According to Reuters and other sources on December 31 (local time), the Russian Ministry of Defense released footage showing a Russian soldier in uniform displaying the wreckage of a Ukrainian Chaklun drone that had been shot down in a forest.

In another video, Igor Bolshakov, a resident of the Novgorod region where Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence is located, stated, "I heard the sound of an air defense missile being launched."

Alexander Romanenkov, Commander of the Russian Air Defense Missile Forces, claimed that this evidence demonstrates that "the Ukrainian regime's acts of terror were meticulously planned and executed targeted airstrikes over several stages." He also provided a detailed explanation of the drone's locations and flight paths by time, stating that the drones targeted President Putin's residence from the night of the 28th to the early morning of the 29th of the same month.

Ukraine, which has previously pointed out that Russia has made false claims to avoid ending the war without presenting any evidence, again responded that the footage does not support Russia's assertions.

Heorhii Tykhy, spokesperson for Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Reuters that the footage was "ridiculous" and stated, "We are absolutely certain that no such attack took place."

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the U.S. government also found Russia's claims to lack credibility.

According to the WSJ, multiple U.S. security officials dismissed Russia's claim that 'Ukraine attempted to assassinate Putin,' stating that Ukraine did not target President Putin or his residence with drone attacks.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump also shared a New York Post editorial link on his social media, which mentioned that 'it is highly likely that Ukraine's attack did not actually occur,' and shared the editorial's headline stating that 'Putin's claim of an attack shows that it is Russia that is blocking peace.'
