Hyundai Department Store Group 2026 New Year's Address
"Establishing a Foundation for Sustainable Growth
in an Era Where Uncertainty Has Become the Norm"
On January 1, Jung Jiseon, Chairman of Hyundai Department Store Group, said, "Let us strengthen the momentum for sustainable growth by leveraging the group's accumulated fundamental competitiveness."
In his New Year's address that day, Chairman Jung stated, "This year, we are likely to continue facing unpredictable instability due to ongoing global trade friction, geopolitical conflicts, and technological hegemony competition," adding, "Let us firmly establish a management foundation that enables sustainable growth without wavering, even in a business environment where uncertainty has become the norm."
Chairman Jung said, "In today's management environment, where uncertainty has increased, it is important to strengthen an 'agile execution system' that allows us to try things quickly and make rapid corrections and improvements," and continued, "We must read market trends even faster, pay close attention to even the smallest inconveniences that have long been taken for granted from the customer's perspective, swiftly detect signs of change in the market and among customers, flexibly adjust our business, and, when necessary, make bold decisions through decisive action."
He went on to say, "For over half a century, we have overcome crises by relying on our fundamental competitiveness: an honest and transparent attitude toward customers, a passion unafraid of failure, and an emergent organizational culture based on empathy and cooperation," and urged employees, "Trust in the expertise and drive we have accumulated, look toward new possibilities, and confidently move forward toward greater growth for both the company and yourselves."
Chairman Jung also remarked, "We have steadily laid the foundation for sustainable growth through the stabilization of the holding company system and thorough preparation for new businesses," and added, "I am especially grateful to each affiliate and all employees for their efforts in spreading a creative organizational culture throughout the group by improving the way we work and encouraging new initiatives, such as the digital workplace based on document centralization at duty-free stores and open innovation through external collaboration at home shopping."
In closing, he emphasized, "There is a saying, 'You cannot know the depth of the water without jumping in.' Over the coming year, let us take bold action, sometimes find better answers through failure, and together chart the course we should take."
