Engineer Killed, President of Peru Inspects Accident Site
Numerous casualties have been reported after two trains traveling to and from Machu Picchu, the iconic Inca heritage site, collided head-on.
The Office of the President of Peru announced on December 31 (local time) that President Jose Jer? visited Cusco to inspect the response to the Machu Picchu train accident.

According to a press release from the Office of the President of Peru, President Jer? visited a local hospital to comfort the injured and to confirm that appropriate medical services were being provided.
According to Fertransa, the railway operator in southeastern Peru, the collision occurred on the afternoon of the 30th on the single-track Pampacahua section of the Cusco-Machu Picchu railway, involving trains operated by Inca Rail and Perurail. The locomotive engineer of the Inca Rail train was killed in the accident. Peruvian authorities reported that 107 passengers from both trains received medical treatment.
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Peru told Yonhap News, "No Korean nationals have been injured," adding, "We are continuing to monitor the situation."
