New Year's Address
Dear 14.21 million residents of Gyeonggi Province,
The new year of 2026 has dawned.
I deeply thank each and every resident who, over the past year, has diligently built their lives in their respective places, nurturing hope for our neighbors, our community, Gyeonggi Province, and the Republic of Korea together.
Gyeonggi Province is home to one in every four people in Korea.
It is a place that safeguards the nation’s security and leads its economy,
a place where cities and rural areas, industry and nature coexist,
a place that is broad, diverse, and the most dynamic,
and a “small Korea” that opens tomorrow through innovation-that is Gyeonggi Province.
Last year, with the promise that “Everywhere We Go, Things Change,”
I visited many sites across Gyeonggi Province where people live and work.
I was once again able to confirm that the strength of Korea lies with its people,
and that at the center of this are the residents of Gyeonggi Province.
I deeply engrave in my heart that protecting the daily lives of each and every resident and enhancing the quality of life is the very path for Korea to leap forward.
In this new era of “sovereignty of the people,” our democracy has become even stronger after overcoming crises.
The economy has now laid the foundation for a new leap forward.
Gyeonggi Province has strived to fulfill its responsibility as the “number one partner in national governance.”
From the “4.5-day workweek” for a life with rest,
to the “Caregiving SOS Project” that expanded the scope of care,
and the new standard for responding to the climate crisis, “Climate Insurance,”
Gyeonggi Province has taken the lead in paving the way for Korea.
In 2026, we will work even more closely with the central government,
steadfastly walking the path of sustainable growth where all residents can prosper together and every region develops evenly.
We will do our utmost so that in all 31 cities and counties, everyone can truly feel, “My life has definitely improved,” and take pride in saying, “I am a resident of Gyeonggi Province.”
I wish happiness will be with you wherever you are throughout the year, and that you find fulfillment in all your endeavors.
