Gijang-gun, Busan to Restrict Parts of Coastal Road for New Year's Sunrise Event

600 Meters Restricted from Haedong Yonggungsa Temple to Dongam Village
Access Limited for Four Hours from 5:00 a.m. on January 1

Gijang-gun, Busan (Governor Jeong Jongbok) announced that in anticipation of large crowds gathering to celebrate the 2026 New Year's sunrise, certain sections of popular sunrise viewing spots in the region will be restricted to prevent safety accidents.

The restricted area covers part of the coastal road connecting Haedong Yonggungsa Temple to Dongam Village, specifically the approximately 600-meter section from the release site within Haedong Yonggungsa Temple to the retaining wall of the National Institute of Fisheries Science. Due to the area's topographical features, there are concerns about potential safety accidents if crowds gather, so a preemptive restriction has been decided.

The restriction will be in place for a total of four hours, from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on January 1, 2026. During this period, both vehicle and pedestrian access will be limited. Police officers and Gijang-gun officials will be stationed on site to manage access, maintain order, and carry out safety management work.

To proactively prevent various safety accidents such as falls and slips due to crowd congestion, Gijang-gun will establish a cooperative system with related organizations including Gijang Police Station, Gijang Fire Station, and Ulsan Coast Guard, and will make thorough preparations to ensure a swift on-site response in case of emergencies.

Governor Jeong Jongbok stated, "We will do our utmost to manage the safety of sunrise visitors in close cooperation with relevant organizations," and added, "We will thoroughly prepare so that both residents and visitors can enjoy a safe and meaningful first day of the New Year."
