Actor Ahn Sungki (73) is currently in critical condition.
According to the film industry and his agency, Artist Company, on December 31, Ahn Sungki collapsed at his home around 4 p.m. the previous day while eating. He received emergency treatment, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and was transferred to the emergency room of a nearby hospital. He is currently reported to be in the intensive care unit.
The agency stated, "Ahn Sungki was taken to the hospital due to a sudden deterioration in his health and is currently receiving treatment," adding, "We are confirming his exact condition and future prognosis based on the medical team's assessment." They continued, "We ask that you prioritize the stability of the actor and his family above all else."
Ahn Sungki was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019 and has been undergoing treatment since then. Although he announced a complete recovery the following year, it was reported that the cancer recurred after six months, and he has since been receiving further treatment. Even during his illness, he demonstrated his commitment to his career by attending special screenings of Director Bae Changho, the opening ceremony of the 27th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, the 4·19 Democracy Peace Award ceremony, the 10th Wildflower Film Awards, and the 13th Beautiful Artist Awards ceremony.
Ahn Sungki made his debut as a child actor in Director Kim Ki-young's "Twilight Train" in 1957. He has appeared in about 130 works, including "White Badge" (1992), "North Korean Partisan in South Korea" (1990), "The Day the Wind Blew" (1980), "Whale Hunting" (1984), "Chilsu and Mansu" (1988), "Two Cops" (1993), "Silmido" (2003), "Radio Star" (2006), "May 18" (2007), and "Hansan: Rising Dragon" (2022), earning immense love as a "national actor."
