Pocheon City Selected as Priority Sewerage Management Area... Accelerates Urban Flood Prevention Project Pocheon City’s Sineup and Eoryong districts have been officially designated as the "2025 Priority Sewerage Management Areas" by the Ministry of Environment. Provided by Pocheon City

Recently, the need to prevent loss of life and property damage caused by urban flooding in the Sineup and Eoryong districts, as well as to ensure citizen safety, has been continuously raised due to a sharp increase in stormwater runoff. This increase is attributed to localized heavy rainfall resulting from climate change and the expansion of impervious surfaces in urban areas.

In response, Pocheon City applied for the designation of these areas as priority sewerage management zones to the Ministry of Environment in December. After an on-site inspection by the Korea Environment Corporation and a review by the selection committee, the Sineup and Eoryong districts were ultimately chosen as the project sites for this public initiative. These areas, being low-lying, have suffered from frequent flooding during heavy rains.

The city plans to invest a total project budget of 25 billion won, including 15 billion won in national funding secured through this designation, to carry out a large-scale urban flood prevention project. This will include upgrading sewer pipelines and expanding rainwater pumping stations to enhance drainage capacity. Additionally, by separating drainage basins, the city aims to improve water flow and proactively prevent damage to citizens’ safety and property caused by rainfall.

A Pocheon City official stated, "The sewer pipeline improvement project is essential to prevent flood damage from heavy rains and to ensure the safety of our citizens," adding, "We will actively implement the project so that urban flooding during heavy rainfall can be resolved."
