On the 30th, the Central Regional Coast Guard Office held a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site for its new headquarters in 302-1, Baegot-dong, Baegot New Town. The event was attended by Park Jaehwa, Commissioner of the Central Regional Coast Guard Office, Lim Byeongtaek, Mayor of Siheung, as well as city and provincial council members.
The Central Regional Coast Guard Office oversees the maritime area from the five islands in the West Sea in the north, through the waters off Incheon and Gyeonggi, down to Seocheon in South Chungcheong Province in the south. Currently, it is temporarily operating out of a leased part of a building in Songdo International City, Incheon.
The new headquarters will be constructed with one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 8,992 square meters. It is scheduled for completion in 2027.
Lim Byeongtaek, Mayor of Siheung, stated, "Once the new headquarters is established in Baegot, Siheung's status as a hub city for maritime safety will be further strengthened."
