Sunrise at 7:41 a.m.; "Preparation for Severe Cold Needed"
In the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions, it will be possible to view the first sunrise of the 2026 Byeongo Year on New Year's Day.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on December 30, there will be some clouds at dawn on January 1, but the sunrise is expected to be visible overall. The morning low temperature is forecast to range from minus 8 to minus 4 degrees Celsius, so the sunrise will be greeted in severe cold.
On December 31, the last day of this year, there will be many clouds mainly along the west coast of Jeonnam, making it difficult to observe the sunset at sea, but there may be places on land where the sunset can be seen through the clouds.
After 6 p.m. on January 1, snow is expected to begin falling mainly along the west coast of Jeonnam, expanding to the western areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam on January 2. The expected snowfall is 1 to 3 centimeters.
The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute has announced that the sunset time in Gwangju on December 31 will be 5:30 p.m., and the sunrise time on January 1 will be 7:41 a.m.
An official from the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration said, "As severe cold is expected from December 31 to January 1, please pay attention to health management by referring to weather information."
