Jangheung County in South Jeolla Province will launch a free "baby resident registration card" issuance service starting in January next year. The initiative aims to create a symbolic record commemorating a child's birth, leaving families with cherished memories and fostering a local atmosphere that encourages childbirth.

On December 30, Jangheung County announced, "We will begin issuing baby resident registration cards free of charge starting January 2025." The card will be produced in the same size as an actual resident registration card, with the front displaying the baby's name, date of birth, and address, and the back listing the baby's prenatal nickname, time of birth, weight, and the parents' wishes. The county explained, "It is designed as a symbolic record of the baby's very first moments."

The service is available for babies born in Jangheung County on or after January 1, 2025. To receive the card, parents must visit the relevant township or town administrative welfare center within one year of the baby's birth, complete an application form, and submit a photo file.

A Jangheung County official said, "We hope the baby resident registration card will serve as a warm memento commemorating each child's birth," and added, "We will continue to develop various policies to encourage childbirth and create an environment where it is easier to raise children."
