Marriage Delayed by Household Setup Worries... Yeongju City Offers 1 Million Won "First Home Support" to Newlyweds in Their 20s

"Household Setup Expense Support Program for Newlyweds in Their 20s" to Launch in January 2026

Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province has launched a marriage promotion policy by providing 1 million won in household setup expenses to newlywed couples in their 20s.

The city is offering support for household setup costs to newlyweds in their 20s in order to ease the financial burden of marriage for young people and to address the issues of low birth rates and population decline.

Starting in January 2026, the city will implement the "Household Setup Expense Support Program for Newlyweds in Their 20s," targeting newlyweds aged between 18 and 29.

This program was established to encourage marriage among young people, who often face significant financial burdens when preparing for marriage, and to help them settle down stably in the local community.

Eligible applicants are young couples who have registered their marriage on or after January 1, 2025, and both spouses must be between 18 and 29 years old as of the date of marriage registration. Applications can be submitted at the local administrative welfare center listed on their resident registration within one year of marriage registration, and support will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis until the budget is exhausted.

To apply, both spouses must have been registered residents and have actually lived in North Gyeongsang Province for at least six months as of the date of marriage registration. Additional eligibility requirements and required documents can be found on the Yeongju City Hall website.

After reviewing eligibility, the city plans to provide 1 million won in household setup support funds for the purchase of home appliances and furniture to the selected couples.

Hong Seongho, Director of the Local Era Policy Office, said, "We hope that this household setup expense support will help young newlyweds prepare for marriage more stably and make a happy start to their lives together," adding, "We will continue to pursue policies that enhance the quality of life for young people and newlyweds and encourage them to settle in the region."
