National Pukyong University Unveils 80th Anniversary Emblem
Dynamic Aspirations for the Future
Marking Liberation as the Founding Point
Why has a university with over 100 years of history designated next year as its 80th anniversary? The year 1946, the first year following Korea's liberation, marks the founding point of this university.
National Pukyong University (President Bae Sanghoon) has unveiled its commemorative emblem ahead of its 80th anniversary next year.
Since November, National Pukyong University has held a design contest for the 80th anniversary emblem and recently finalized the emblem after upgrading the winning design.
This emblem features the university's symbolic animal, the sperm whale, and its existing compass symbol, integrated with the number 80. It visually represents the university's strong aspirations to open a bright future as it celebrates its 80th anniversary.
National Pukyong University was established through the first-ever integration of two national universities: Busan Fisheries College, the first higher education institution for fisheries in Korea, and Busan Technical College, the first modern technical education institution.
The two predecessor institutions of National Pukyong University were founded in 1941 and 1924, respectively, giving the university a history of over 100 years. However, after their merger, the university agreed to set 1946, the year after liberation, as its official founding year, making next year its 80th anniversary. The history of the merger will also reach its 30th year next year, following the integration in 1996.
National Pukyong University plans to designate its 80th anniversary next year as a year of great journey and new leap forward, and will actively pursue its vision of becoming a research-oriented university, an AX innovative university, and a global innovative university.
The university intends to use the new emblem in various 80th anniversary commemorative events, as well as in donation relay campaigns, pamphlets, and online content, to actively promote the university's history and vision both internally and externally.
