Shaking Hands with Each Reporter and Offering Words of Encouragement
President Lee Jaemyung, who began his official duties at the Blue House, made a surprise visit to Chunchugwan, where the briefing room and press room are located.
At around 5 p.m. on the 29th, President Lee stopped by Chunchugwan, visiting the second-floor briefing room and the first-floor press room to greet the reporters. He shook hands with each of the reporters and offered words of encouragement such as "Happy New Year" and "Keep up the good work."
He also joked with the reporters, asking, "Is Chunchugwan better than Yongsan?" and then added, "I think it's not as good as Yongsan. It's a bit cramped." When reporters asked him to visit more often, he replied, "Next time, I should at least bring some fried chicken."
Previously, after his inauguration, President Lee also made a surprise visit to the staff cafeteria used by reporters at the Yongsan presidential office, sharing a meal and answering their questions. Although he has moved his office to the Blue House, this continued engagement, similar to what he did at the Yongsan office, seems to reflect his intention to dispel concerns about becoming isolated from the public.
In response, Lee Gyuyoun, Senior Secretary for Public Relations and Communication, said, "We were planning for a more formal visit, but the President said there was no need for that and decided to come by. In the new year, just like at the beginning of his term, the President will also make time to visit the staff cafeteria or have surprise tea times at the cafe."
