According to the business community on December 29, Senior Vice Chairman Choi is expected to assume the role of Senior Vice Chairman at SK Square effective January 1 next year. He will lead SK Square together with President Kim Jeongkyu, who was appointed as President of SK Square in last month's SK Group executive reshuffle.
SK Square was launched in 2021 as an investment company spun off from SK Telecom, and is pursuing the growth and value enhancement of subsidiaries such as SK Hynix through global investments focused on AI and semiconductors.
Senior Vice Chairman Choi joined SKC in 1994 and has since worked at SK Telecom, SK E&S (now SK Innovation E&S), SK Inc., and SK Networks. In June last year, he was appointed Senior Vice Chairman of SK Innovation, and this will be his first time joining SK Square.
Senior Vice Chairman Choi is recognized as a leading global expert within SK Group. He holds a bachelor's degree in physics from Brown University, a master's degree in materials engineering from Stanford University, and an MBA from Harvard University. For over 30 years, he has led global business operations for the group. Drawing on his extensive global network, he has spearheaded responses to geopolitical risks and implemented global growth strategies across the energy and battery sectors at SK On and SK Innovation. It is expected that Senior Vice Chairman Choi will also utilize his global network for financing activities at SK Square.
With the addition of Senior Vice Chairman Choi, SK Square is expected to significantly enhance its corporate value as an investment company through new investments and portfolio value-up initiatives centered on AI and semiconductors. Senior Vice Chairman Choi will support these efforts based on his experience in future strategy and business planning accumulated at key affiliates such as SK Telecom.
An industry official commented, "Senior Vice Chairman Choi's deep understanding of advanced technologies, combined with his experience and capabilities as a global expert, is expected to play a crucial role in enhancing SK Square's corporate value," adding, "His appointment is in line with the 'strengthening of field- and execution-oriented leadership' confirmed in the recent executive reshuffle, and Senior Vice Chairman Choi will be supporting this initiative on the front lines."
