Kumho Construction CEO Apologizes for Dongbuk Line Fatal Accident: "All Similar Projects Nationwide Halted"

Following the death of a worker at the Dongbuk Line construction site in the Jegi-dong area, Kumho Construction has suspended all similar construction processes currently underway across the country. Kumho Construction announced that it will investigate the cause of the accident and implement measures to prevent recurrence.


On December 29, Jo Wan-seok, CEO of Kumho Construction, issued an official apology, stating, "I would like to express my deepest condolences and sincere apologies to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this sudden accident." He added, "Immediately after the accident, we halted all processes at the site in question, as well as all similar construction work nationwide."

He continued, "We have launched a thorough investigation and inspection into the cause of the accident," and added, "We will fully cooperate with the relevant authorities' investigations and take all necessary actions to prevent this from happening again."


CEO Jo emphasized, "We will spare no effort to provide company-level support to help alleviate the pain experienced by the bereaved families, even if only a little." He also stressed, "We will use this accident as an opportunity to re-examine our safety management system and further strengthen preventive safety management at all sites."


Earlier that day, at around 10:41 a.m., a rockfall accident occurred at the Dongbuk Line urban railway construction site in Jegi-dong, Dongdaemun-gu. As a result of the accident, a man in his 60s who was working at the time was struck by falling debris, went into cardiac arrest, and was transported to the hospital, but ultimately died.
