Urban Heat Island Mitigation and Improved Walking Environment Expected
Jingangun (Governor Jeong Jongbok) has completed the creation of the 'Urban Wind Path Forest' along the streets of Jeonggwan New Town (including Jeonggwan Jungang-ro) to provide a pleasant walking environment and alleviate the urban heat island effect.
The 'Urban Wind Path Forest' is a green infrastructure that channels clean and cool air generated from the forests on the outskirts of the city into the urban area, promoting air circulation. It helps reduce air pollution and improve the thermal environment by expelling fine dust and heat outside the city.
This project aims to address climate change by mitigating the urban heat island effect and reducing fine dust.
The 'Jeonggwan New Town Urban Wind Path Forest Project' was carried out entirely with national and municipal government funding. A total budget of 896 million won (50% national, 50% municipal) was invested to plant 378 trees of 10 species, including Quercus dentata, and 17,092 shrubs of 9 species, including Photinia, transforming the existing flower beds along the streets into a dignified forest path.
The county expects that the creation of the Urban Wind Path Forest will not only provide residents and visitors with cleaner air and a more pleasant walking environment, but also contribute to improving the urban landscape and enhancing the quality of life.
Governor Jeong Jongbok stated, "I would like to thank the residents for their patience despite the long construction period," and added, "We will continue to expand urban forests to achieve carbon neutrality, improve the quality of life for our residents, and build 'Jingangun, a city of happiness connected by forests.'"
