Two New Programs Selected

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on December 29 that two of its environmental education programs have been newly selected as Excellent Environmental Education Programs designated by the Ministry of Environment.

With this new designation, the city now has a total of six environmental education programs for infants, children, and special education students recognized as Excellent Environmental Education Programs by the Ministry of Environment, including the four programs previously designated.

The Ministry of Environment’s Excellent Environmental Education Program designation system is a national certification system that comprehensively evaluates and designates programs based on their eco-friendliness, educational excellence, and safety.

The newly designated programs are "Small Seeds, Big World," which uses the metaphor of seeds to represent the potential and growth of young children and encourages building a better world together, and "Pat Pat, You Did Well!," an environmental education program that comforts nature facing the climate crisis and extends its message to empathy and encouragement for families.

This achievement is especially meaningful as it comes in the final year of Goyang City’s first Environmental Education Plan, with two new programs added to the four already designated by the Ministry of Environment. It demonstrates that the city’s ongoing environmental education policies and field-oriented program management have been recognized and expanded at the national level.

In particular, the city has established a life-cycle-based environmental education system under its first Environmental Education Plan, and, led by the Environmental Policy Division, has continuously planned, developed, and operated environmental education programs for infants, children, and special education students that reflect the unique characteristics of Goyang City.

This designation by the Ministry of Environment is being recognized as a case where the entire policy process-from planning and implementation to achieving results-has been stably managed by the city’s internal capabilities. It has also served to further strengthen the credibility of Goyang City’s environmental education initiatives.

A city official stated, "This designation by the Ministry of Environment is an important achievement marking the conclusion of the first Environmental Education Plan," and added, "Based on this, we will further advance Goyang-style environmental education in the upcoming second Environmental Education Plan."

Meanwhile, the city plans to further solidify the system of environmental education for infants, children, and special education students based on its achievements with the Ministry of Environment designation, and to continuously promote inclusive environmental education policies that reflect local characteristics and ensure that no one is left behind.
