Coupang Announces 1.68 Trillion Won Customer Compensation Plan... 50,000 Won Per Person

Sequential Distribution Begins January 15 Next Year
50,000 Won Per Person... Total Compensation Reaches 1.685 Trillion Won

On December 29, Coupang announced a customer compensation plan worth a total of 1.685 trillion won in response to the recent personal information leak incident.


Starting January 15, Coupang will provide purchase vouchers to customers. The recipients are the 33.7 million accounts that received notifications of the personal information leak last month, with each customer receiving vouchers worth 50,000 won. Both Wow members and regular members will receive the same compensation. Former Coupang customers who received the leak notification after withdrawing from the service are also included. Coupang plans to sequentially notify all 33.7 million affected customers via text message on how to use the purchase vouchers.


Harold Rogers, Acting Representative Director of Coupang Korea, stated, "All Coupang employees deeply regret the great concern and distress the recent personal information leak has caused our customers," adding, "We have prepared this compensation plan as a responsible measure for our customers."

Coupang will provide each affected customer with four types of purchase vouchers that can be used once, totaling 50,000 won per person: 5,000 won for all products on Coupang including Rocket Delivery, Rocket Direct Purchase, Seller Rocket, and Marketplace Coupang; 5,000 won for Coupang Eats; 20,000 won for Coupang Travel products; and 20,000 won for Allux products.


Eligible customers will be able to check their vouchers sequentially on the Coupang application (app) starting January 15. The vouchers can be applied when purchasing products. Further details will be announced separately.


Acting Representative Director Rogers said, "Taking this incident as an opportunity, Coupang will deeply embrace 'customer-centric values,' fulfill our responsibilities to the end, and strive to become a company trusted by our customers," adding, "We once again sincerely apologize to all our customers."
