The Samcheok Luge Development Project is a private investment initiative to build a luge experience facility near Surubuin Heonhwa Park in Imwon-ri, Wondeok-eup, offering views of the East Sea. Luge, which involves riding a non-motorized wheeled sled down a slope, is an experiential tourism attraction enjoyed by people of all ages and is gaining significant popularity both domestically and internationally.
In particular, Samcheok Luge is expected to differentiate itself from existing inland facilities by leveraging its coastal location and offering sea-view luge rides, thereby greatly contributing to the promotion of stay-type tourism and attracting visitors throughout all four seasons.
The city expects that, once completed, Samcheok Luge will attract approximately 700,000 tourists annually, create jobs for local residents, revitalize nearby commercial districts, and generate a positive ripple effect throughout the regional economy.
A city official stated, "The Samcheok Luge Development Project is a model case of attracting private investment to boost the local economy and is an important project that will elevate Samcheok as a leading experiential tourism city on the East Coast. We will continue to provide administrative support to ensure the smooth progress of the project in the future."
