The 'Daejeon Yuseong Complex Terminal,' a new gateway in the northwestern part of Daejeon that will operate 32 routes including Seoul, Incheon, Cheongju, and Gongju, held its completion ceremony on December 29.

More than 500 people attended the ceremony, including Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, Cho Wonhui, Chairman of the Daejeon Metropolitan Council, the head of Yuseong District, city and district council members, and local residents, celebrating the completion of a project that has been in progress for a long time.

The Yuseong Complex Terminal was constructed near Guam Station on Daejeon Metro Line 1 with a total project cost of 44.9 billion won, covering a site area of 15,000 square meters and a total floor area of 3,858 square meters, and is capable of accommodating up to 6,500 users per day.

Set to begin operations in January next year, the Yuseong Complex Terminal will be jointly operated by Daejeon Transportation Corporation and a private operator to strengthen public interest and provide stable services. Intercity and express buses on 32 routes, including those to Seoul, Cheongju, and Gongju, will be integrated and managed at the terminal.

In addition, the current Yuseong Intercity Bus Stop building will be remodeled and repurposed as a convenience facility for the terminal by April next year.

The Yuseong Complex Terminal construction project was initially promoted through a private operator recruitment method in 2010, but due to prolonged delays, a continuous decline in passenger demand, and a downturn in the housing market, the development plan was changed in February 2023 to build a public terminal focused on passenger facilities with funding from the city’s budget.

Along with this, surrounding land has been secured for support facilities, such as a 17,000-square-meter site for convention and complex facilities, and a 7,000-square-meter site for public office buildings in preparation for future relocation of public institutions. These developments are expected to have a positive impact on the local economy by revitalizing nearby commercial areas and creating jobs through improved public transportation connectivity.

Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated, "By focusing administrative capabilities with the spirit of 'Saguishinsok' (value in prompt action), we were able to complete the new construction just three years after announcing the development plan change," adding, "Once the terminal begins operations next month, it will serve as a new gateway for the northwestern region of Daejeon."
