Paju City Completes Streetscape Improvement Projects on Geumjeong-ro, City Hall Alley, Geumjeong 12-gil, and Geumjeong 13-gil

Paju City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it completed the Geumjeong-ro streetscape improvement project, the Safe Residential Environment Creation Project, and the Alley Garden Creation Project by the end of December this year. These initiatives are part of the Geumchon Urban Regeneration New Deal Project, which was selected in a 2021 public contest by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Geumchon Urban Regeneration New Deal Project is a mid- to long-term initiative running from 2022 to 2026, aimed at improving aging residential environments and revitalizing the local community.

First, the Geumjeong-ro streetscape improvement project was carried out in connection with the second district housing redevelopment and maintenance project in Geumchon 2-dong. To ensure smooth road drainage, L-shaped side ditches and stormwater inlets were replaced along the commercial area. In addition, LED streetlights were installed, road studs were added, and asphalt concrete was repaved to enhance the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians.

The Safe Residential Environment Creation Project and the Alley Garden Creation Project targeted mixed-use roads for vehicles and pedestrians in the areas of Geumjeong 12-gil and Geumjeong 13-gil. In these sections, new LED streetlights were installed and security closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) were set up. Asphalt concrete was repaved, and gobo lights were installed on both sides of the road to create a safe and pleasant walking environment. As a result, not only has the risk of traffic accidents been reduced, but the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians has been greatly improved.

The Geumchon Urban Regeneration Project is contributing to the revitalization of alleys and traditional markets, as well as organically connecting Myeongdong Park (DMZ Wildflower Park), alley gardens, and residential areas to secure a streetscape that offers rest within residential neighborhoods. In addition, by linking with the DMZ Wildflower Experience Center inside the Geumchon Eoullim Center, the project is leading to an increase in external tourists and improved pedestrian satisfaction, thereby enhancing the quality of life for citizens.

A Paju City official stated, "Through this project, residents of Geumchon 1-dong, as well as all citizens of Paju, are experiencing improvements in the road environment and crime prevention. We also expect positive changes in the revitalization of local alley businesses. Moving forward, we will continue to create a citizen-centered urban environment as we strive for a greater Paju."
