Busan Metro to Extend Operations by 2 Hours for Year-End and New Year Crowds at Gwangalli and Yongdusan

60 Additional Train Runs and 110 Safety Personnel Deployed for New Year’s Events

Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) has established a special urban railway transportation plan to prepare for the mass movement of people during the year-end and New Year period. On December 31 and January 1, the corporation will increase the number of trains in operation and extend service hours by up to two hours.


On the night of December 31, the "Busan Citizens’ Bell-Ringing Ceremony" will be held at Yongdusan Park in Jung-gu, while "Countdown Busan" and a drone light show will take place at Gwangalli Beach. The corporation expects approximately 67,000 people to gather in the Gwangalli Beach area in particular.


To ensure the safe return home of citizens after these late-night events, the corporation will extend the operating hours of Busan Metro Lines 1 through 4 by up to two hours and add a total of 60 extra train runs on that day. By line, there will be 12 additional runs on Line 1, 26 on Line 2, 12 on Line 3, and 10 on Line 4.


The last train departure times for each line will also be adjusted. On Line 1, the last train bound for Dadaepo Beach from Nampo Station will be delayed from midnight to 2:06 a.m. the following day, and the last train to Nopo will be delayed from 11:45 p.m. to 1:36 a.m. the next day.


On Line 2, the last train to Jangsan from Gwangan Station will be changed from 12:20 a.m. to 2:10 a.m. the next day, and the last train to Yangsan will be changed from 11:26 p.m. to 1:33 a.m. the following day.


On January 1, the first day of the new year, an additional 10 trains on Line 2 and 8 trains on Line 3 will be operated from 6:50 a.m. to accommodate the Haeundae sunrise event.


The revised train schedules can be checked on the Busan Transportation Corporation website, the Busan Metro mobile application, and notices posted at each station.


During the event period, Busan Transportation Corporation will deploy a total of 110 safety support personnel to prevent accidents. These staff will be stationed at Nampo Station, Haeundae Station, Suyeong Station, Gwangan Station, and Geumnyeonsan Station to provide passenger guidance, maintain order, and respond to emergencies.


Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "As large-scale events continue throughout the year-end and New Year period, we are making every effort to prioritize the safe travel of citizens by thoroughly preparing transportation operations and on-site management," adding, "We hope everyone enjoys a safe and pleasant year-end and New Year with Busan Metro."
