"I will work with integrity and conviction"
Kim Sung-sik, who was appointed as the new Vice Chair of the National Economic Advisory Council under the Lee Jaemyung administration, stated, "I will work with integrity and conviction." The new Vice Chair, Kim, is a conservative figure who previously served as a lawmaker with the Bareunmirae Party.
On this day, Vice Chair Kim wrote on Facebook, "Despite my many shortcomings, I have been appointed as Vice Chair of the National Economic Advisory Council," adding, "Our democracy has faced a major crisis due to an insurrection, and we are in a period of severe domestic and international economic challenges and risks." He further analyzed, "The rough road ahead of us is too difficult and uncertain to overcome with the efforts of the government alone or the power of a single party."
He went on to recall the lyrics, "Don't wait for a special miracle," emphasizing, "Only by achieving results through competent governance can the country move forward into the future. This is not a task placed solely on the President's shoulders, but a vital challenge for all our people." The lyrics Kim referenced are from the Girls' Generation song "Into the New World," which was sung by citizens gathered in front of the National Assembly in protest against the December 3 Martial Law.
Additionally, Vice Chair Kim stated that he has no party affiliation and has never met President Lee Jaemyung. He said, "I left frontline politics a few years ago and currently have no party affiliation," adding, "I believe the President entrusted me with the position of Vice Chair to ensure the National Economic Advisory Council fulfills its original role even more faithfully."
He concluded, "Recognizing that this is an honorable and weighty public office, I will do my utmost," and pledged, "I will listen attentively not only to valuable policy suggestions but also to candid and critical feedback."
