277 Personnel and 85 Patrol Staff Deployed
As a cold wave swept through Seoul, a series of water meter freeze incidents occurred overnight.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on December 27, a total of 31 cases of water meter freezing were reported in Seoul from 5 p.m. the previous day until 5 a.m. on the day of reporting. So far, there have been no reports of cold-related illnesses or additional damage caused by frozen water pipes.
To respond to the cold wave, the city of Seoul has activated an emergency work system. A total of 277 personnel across 87 teams, along with 85 patrol staff, have been deployed to operate the Comprehensive Cold Wave Support Situation Room.
Overnight, the city also provided meals to homeless individuals and checked on the well-being of seniors living alone, as part of its efforts to protect vulnerable groups. In addition, the city inspected the operation status of cold wave shelters, such as community centers, welfare centers, and senior citizen centers that are open at night.
Meanwhile, at 6:20 a.m. on December 27, the Korea Meteorological Administration issued a strong wind advisory for the plains of Sokcho, Gangwon Province. A strong wind advisory is issued when the average wind speed is expected to reach at least 14 meters per second or when gusts are expected to exceed 20 meters per second.
Currently, a cold wave warning is in effect for Cheorwon, the plains of Inje County, the plains of Yanggu County, and the central mountainous areas of Gangwon Province. The Korea Meteorological Administration has advised the public to pay close attention to facility management and safety, as severe cold and strong winds are expected to continue for the time being.
