Pohang City has selected candidate sites for the 'Pohang-type Unique Venue (PUV)' project, which aims to reinterpret local spatial assets as stages for meetings and events.

On December 26, the city held the final report meeting for the establishment of the 2025 Pohang-type Unique Venue (PUV) master plan in the main conference room at City Hall.

This project was launched to designate and foster unique venues in order to enhance the city's attractiveness and to build an image of Pohang as a 'city well-suited for hosting various international conferences and events.'

A unique venue refers to a differentiated space where official banquet programs such as dinners, welcome events, and networking can be held in addition to official meetings during MICE events.

The final report meeting was presided over by Lee Sanghyun, Head of the Pohang Tourism and Convention City Promotion Headquarters, and attended by over 20 participants, including officials from the MICE Industry Division, related departments, external experts, and representatives from the consulting company.

The meeting provided a comprehensive report on the results of establishing selection criteria for the Pohang-type Unique Venue (PUV), as well as the review and on-site inspection of candidate sites, with the goal of creating a foundation for revitalizing Pohang's MICE industry.

The Pohang-type Unique Venue was evaluated based on step-by-step criteria such as the venue's cooperativeness, the symbolism and attractiveness of the space, and basic facilities and operational conditions.

As a result, Space Walk (Hwanho Park), Yeonorang Seonyeo Theme Park, and Sabang Memorial Park were identified as candidate sites that could represent Pohang as unique venues.

This project was carried out over approximately five months, from July to December 2025, focusing on analyzing the characteristics and potential of Pohang's spatial assets and establishing utilization strategies linked to international conferences and MICE events.

In particular, the basic model proposed is to hold conferences centered around the Pohang International Exhibition and Convention Center (POEX), while utilizing unique venues as spaces for official events such as banquets, welcome ceremonies, and participant exchange programs.

Based on this final report meeting, the city plans to closely examine the facility conditions, operational environment, and utilization potential of the spaces reviewed as candidate unique venues, and to gradually upgrade them into spaces capable of supporting MICE events through interdepartmental collaboration focused on their connection with POEX.

Lee Sanghyun, Head of the Tourism and Convention City Promotion Headquarters, stated, "Pohang is a city equipped with industrial, natural, and historical assets. By actively utilizing these through unique venues, we will enhance Pohang's MICE competitiveness and build 'Pohang in the World.'"
