Hwasun-eup, Chunyang-myeon, and Iyang-myeon Selected as Target Areas
On December 26, Hwasun County in South Jeolla Province announced that three areas within its jurisdiction have been selected for the "2026 Odor Status Survey Project" promoted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.
According to the county, the three selected areas are: ▲ the pig farming complex in Daji-ri and the poultry farm area in Samcheon-ri, Hwasun-eup; ▲ the pig farm and compost factory in Hoesong-ri, Chunyang-myeon; and ▲ the pig farm in Gangseong-ri and the compost factory in Yongban-ri, Iyang-myeon. These are areas where residents have continuously raised complaints due to odor-emitting facilities.
The county determined that resolving the odor issue was urgent to protect residents’ health and environmental rights, which led to its application for the project. By actively explaining the necessity of the survey to the review committee and the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, Hwasun County ultimately achieved final selection for the project.
The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, through the Korea Environment Corporation, will conduct a status survey on odor occurrences throughout 2026 and will develop improvement measures based on the survey results. As a result, it is expected that residents who have experienced inconveniences due to odors in these areas will receive practical assistance.
Governor Koo Bokgyu stated, "Through this odor status survey in the three areas, we hope that the causes and impacts of odors will be objectively identified and that effective improvement measures will be established so that residents can enjoy a pleasant living environment."
