This selection was the result of a comprehensive evaluation, including on-site festival assessments, operational performance, content quality, and future growth potential. The Sunchang Fermented Soybean Festival received high marks for its balance of tradition, popularity, and global competitiveness.

The 20th Sunchang Fermented Soybean Festival, held for three days from October 17 to 19, was organized under the slogan "The Colors of Sunchang, Coloring the World."

In particular, the festival featured diverse experiences and performances for all generations, centering on programs celebrating the inscription of Korea's traditional jang-making culture as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Marking its 20th anniversary, the festival received enthusiastic responses from visitors.

Additionally, the operation of local food booths highlighting the unique flavors of jang further solidified the festival’s distinct identity. Visitor amenities were greatly expanded, including the installation of large shade canopies, designated seating for those with accessibility needs, and the creation of a food zone. Photo zones featuring chrysanthemums and pink muhly grass were also set up to further enhance visitor satisfaction.

This year’s festival saw a significant increase in visitors from outside the region as well as local residents, indicating that the festival’s recognition and influence have grown further. The county stated that it plans to continue expanding experiential content and attractions next year to further strengthen the region’s identity as the home of fermented soybean products.

County Governor Choi Youngil said, "This Best Festival selection is a valuable achievement created together by all Sunchang residents and stakeholders," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that the Sunchang Fermented Soybean Festival grows into a global festival that attracts visitors from all over the world, beyond Jeonbuk Province."
