The police have executed an arrest warrant for Yoon Youngho, the former Secretary-General of the Unification Church World Headquarters, who is a key figure in the alleged lobbying of political circles by the Unification Church.
According to a compilation of reports by The Asia Business Daily, the police executed the arrest warrant for former Secretary-General Yoon at around 9:50 a.m. on the 26th to conduct a prompt additional investigation.
On the 24th, the police visited the Seoul Detention Center to conduct an interview investigation with former Secretary-General Yoon, but it did not take place. While the previous interview investigation was conducted on a voluntary basis, the current investigation is compulsory. However, the arrest warrant is valid only once, so a new warrant must be obtained for any additional investigations in the future.
Former Secretary-General Yoon is suspected of delivering cash worth tens of millions of won and luxury watches to Jeon Jae-soo, former Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, Lim Jongseong, former Democratic Party lawmaker, and Kim Kyuhwan, former United Future Party lawmaker, between 2018 and 2020.
The police questioned former Secretary-General Yoon and President Han Hakja separately on the 11th and 17th regarding the overall allegations, but did not obtain any significant statements.
On December 12, former Secretary-General Yoon appeared in court as a witness and reversed his previous position on the lobbying allegations, stating, "I have never testified as such."
Meanwhile, on the morning of the 26th, the police questioned two Unification Church officials as reference witnesses, and the attorney for former Minister Jeon observed the forensic examination of seized items.
Previously, on the 23rd, the police conducted a search and seizure of Cartier Korea, along with Bulgari Korea.
