KOSPI Opens Higher at 4,130... Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix Lead Gains

KOSDAQ Rebounds After Three Sessions

On December 26, the KOSPI began trading with a slight upward bias and is fluctuating around the 4,130 level. The KOSDAQ also opened with a firm tone and has returned to an upward trend after three sessions.

As of 9:17 a.m. on this day, the KOSPI stood at 4,132.72, up 0.59% from the previous trading day. The index started at 4,130.37, a 0.53% increase from the previous session, and has been moving within the 4,120 to 4,140 range.


Foreign investors and institutions are leading the market, with net purchases of 20 billion won and 37.3 billion won, respectively. In contrast, individual investors are net sellers, offloading 61.6 billion won.


By sector, electrical and electronics (up 1.71%) are showing the highest gains. The strong performance of Micron, which rose more than 3% on the New York Stock Exchange overnight, is interpreted as having a positive impact on the domestic semiconductor sector. Other sectors showing gains include manufacturing (up 1.01%), paper and wood products (up 0.34%), medical and precision instruments (up 0.34%), transportation and storage (up 0.33%), and transport equipment and parts (up 0.23%). On the other hand, entertainment and culture (down 1.20%), food, beverage and tobacco (down 0.78%), distribution (down 0.64%), electricity and gas (down 0.47%), metals (down 0.45%), and chemicals (down 0.36%) are declining.


Among the top market capitalization stocks, the strength of semiconductors is particularly notable. Samsung Electronics rose 2.97% from the previous session, with its share price reaching 114,400 won, while SK Hynix is also showing gains of over 1%. In addition, Samsung Biologics (up 0.03%) and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (up 0.39%) are also rising. Conversely, LG Energy Solution (down 0.38%), Doosan Enerbility (down 0.79%), KB Financial Group (down 1.27%), and Kia (down 0.17%) are falling.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ was up 0.69% from the previous trading day at 921.47. The KOSDAQ index opened at 920.90, a 0.62% increase from the previous session.


Individual and institutional investors are net buyers, purchasing 5.5 billion won and 18.5 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors are net sellers, offloading 20.9 billion won.


By sector, general services (up 1.34%), finance (up 1.18%), machinery and equipment (up 0.97%), IT services (up 0.96%), electrical and electronics (up 0.80%), and non-metallic products (up 0.71%) are on the rise, while publishing and media replication (down 0.86%), textiles and apparel (down 0.64%), entertainment and culture (down 0.51%), paper and wood products (down 0.50%), and construction (down 0.25%) are declining.


Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, Alteogen (up 3.84%), EcoPro BM (up 0.57%), EcoPro (up 1.54%), ABL Bio (up 0.96%), Legochem Bio (up 0.75%), HLB (up 0.97%), and Peptron (up 1.31%) are all gaining. In contrast, Rainbow Robotics (down 0.21%) and Kolon TissueGene (down 2.45%) are declining.
