Goyang City Expands Industrial Zone Area by 93 Percent
From 166,000㎡ to 321,182㎡

Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on December 26 that, following the approval of the fourth amendment to the district plan for the Goyang Changneung Public Housing District, a new industrial zone covering 155,182 square meters has been designated.

With this district plan amendment, the total area of industrial zones owned by Goyang Special City has expanded from the previous 166,000 square meters to 321,182 square meters, an increase of approximately 93 percent, due to the addition of the Changneung District corporate relocation complex.

Until now, Goyang City faced difficulties in designating new industrial zones due to regulations under the Capital Region Readjustment Planning Act. However, through continuous consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation, the city succeeded in designating industrial zones for factories and companies that need to be relocated during the development of the Changneung District, based on special provisions under the Special Act on Public Housing. This has established a foundation for local businesses to resettle stably within the city.

In particular, this industrial zone designation goes beyond simply securing relocation sites for businesses. It is expected to serve as a key driver for transforming the new city, which had been a concern for being overly residential, into a self-sustaining urban structure that integrates industry and jobs, thereby enabling the city to function independently.

An official from Goyang Special City stated, "Establishing a foundation for businesses to take root is essential for Changneung District to become a self-sustaining city where jobs, industry, and housing are harmoniously integrated," adding, "This designation of the industrial zone will enhance the region's industrial competitiveness and serve as an important turning point for balanced development."

Going forward, Goyang Special City plans to gradually build industrial support infrastructure centered around the Goyang Changneung District and continue efforts to revitalize the local economy and promote sustainable urban growth.
