Subzero Temperatures and Strong Winds on Christmas... 'White Christmas' Expected for West Coast and Jeju Yonhap News Agency

On December 25, Christmas Day, temperatures are expected to drop significantly below freezing, accompanied by strong winds, making the weather very cold.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on December 24, cold air will descend from the northwest on the 25th, causing morning temperatures to fall sharply. The morning low on December 25 is forecast to range from -8 to 3 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs between -4 and 8 degrees Celsius.

The expected minimum and maximum temperatures in major cities are as follows: Seoul, -3 and -1 degrees; Incheon, -4 and -1 degrees; Suwon, -4 and 0 degrees; Gangneung, 2 and 6 degrees; Daejeon, -3 and 3 degrees; Gwangju, 0 and 5 degrees; Daegu, -1 and 5 degrees; Ulsan, 2 and 7 degrees; Busan, 3 and 8 degrees; and Jeju, 6 and 9 degrees.

Very strong winds will further lower the perceived temperature, so it will feel even colder. It is advised to wear thick outerwear. The cold weather is expected to continue until December 26 and will gradually ease over the weekend.

A white Christmas is expected in Jeolla, the west coast, and the mountainous regions of Jeju. Starting from the afternoon of December 25, snowfall of around 1 centimeter per hour is expected, and a heavy snow advisory may be issued due to significant accumulation.

On the west coast, south coast, Jeju, and the east coast of North Gyeongsang Province, very strong winds exceeding 70 kilometers per hour are expected from the early morning of December 25, which may lead to strong wind advisories. A high seas warning is already in effect for the southern part of the West Sea and some waters around Jeju, so vessels navigating or operating in these areas should exercise special caution.
