At approximately 6:35 a.m. on December 24, a long-distance bus traveling in the first lane collided with the side of a 25-ton cargo truck traveling in the second lane near the Sudong Rest Area on the Daejeon-bound side of the Daejeon-Tongyeong Expressway in Sudong-myeon, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam Province.
As a result of the accident, four passengers sustained serious injuries and five others suffered minor injuries; all were transported to the hospital.
At the time of the accident, the long-distance bus was carrying one driver and twenty passengers.
The fire authorities deployed 57 personnel and 14 pieces of equipment to rescue passengers who were trapped inside the vehicles.
The police are currently investigating both drivers to determine whether alcohol was involved and to clarify the exact circumstances of the accident.
