This event was organized to present letters of appointment to 146 members of the Resident Autonomy Committees in Hwado-eup, Jingeon-eup, Toegyewon-eup, Sudong-myeon, and Pyeongnae-dong, who will begin their new terms in 2026, and to enhance their understanding of resident autonomy.
During the appointment ceremony, the committee members wrote down their future roles and responsibilities on a 'pledge paper' and shared them with each other, reinforcing their sense of mission and responsibility as members of the Resident Autonomy Committees.
Following this, the city invited an expert in the field of resident autonomy to conduct capacity building training on the topic of 'Operation of the Resident Autonomy Committee and the Role of Its Members.' Through the training, the members explored the meaning of resident autonomy and reviewed specific cases that could be implemented in the field.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "I welcome all of you who have been newly appointed as members of the Resident Autonomy Committees," and added, "I hope you will take the lead in identifying local issues based on voices from the field and help make Namyangju a better place for everyone to live."
Meanwhile, since forming its first Resident Autonomy Committee in 2016, the city has been operating such committees in a total of eight towns and neighborhoods. Going forward, the city plans to further expand resident participation and continuously strengthen the capacity for self-governance, enabling residents to address a variety of local challenges on their own.
