Pyeongchang County Completes Urban Planning Information System Database Update, Laying Foundation for Smart Urban Administration

Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province is set to complete its "Urban Planning Information System (UPIS) Database Update Project" by the end of this year, an initiative aimed at enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of urban planning administration. Through this project, Pyeongchang County will systematically organize information on all aspects of its urban and county management plans, which is expected to provide tangible benefits for future administrative work and public services.

The purpose of this project is to systematically organize the accumulated urban planning notices and decision records for the entire administrative area of Pyeongchang County since the initial urban planning was established, and to register and link the latest 2025 notices and decision records. This will enable the creation of a database that meets the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Urban Planning Information System (UPIS) standards.

In particular, as information on zoning districts, urban planning facilities, and implementation plan approvals is systematically organized, it has become much easier to verify requested changes or past plans when citizens submit inquiries. As a result, repetitive work related to data verification during permit reviews and the drafting of urban plans will be significantly reduced, and the accuracy and consistency of administrative decisions are also expected to improve.

Lee Jeongui, Head of the County Urban Division, stated, "This update of the Urban Planning Information System database goes beyond simple data organization; it will serve as an important foundation for enhancing the accuracy and reliability of Pyeongchang County's urban planning administration. We will continue to work towards improving administrative services that residents can truly feel, through rational, data-driven administration."

Building on the results of this project, Pyeongchang County plans to actively utilize data-driven administration in the establishment of future urban and county management plans, the review of various development projects, and the overall policy decision-making process.
