In India, two sons were arrested by the police after releasing a venomous snake to kill their father in order to claim insurance money.

According to The Times of India on December 23, a man in his 50s named Ganesan was found dead at his home in October.

Police investigations identified Ganesan's two sons as prime suspects. Mohanraj (26) and Harihasan (27) are accused of causing their father's death by having him bitten by a snake to receive an insurance payout of 30 million rupees (approximately 495 million won).

It was revealed that before his death, Ganesan had been bitten by a venomous snake twice, with a one-week interval between the incidents. After their first attempt failed, the sons escalated their efforts and tried again, ultimately resulting in Ganesan's death from a snake bite to the neck.

Police examined the two sons' call records and financial transactions, uncovering evidence suggesting the involvement of additional accomplices and are conducting further investigations. A police official stated, "It was suspicious that the sons had taken out a large life insurance policy before Ganesan's death," and added, "There was an inexplicably long delay between Ganesan being bitten by the snake and his transfer to the hospital."
