The "2025 Seoul Light Gwanghwamun" festival, a signature winter night light event in downtown Seoul, has once again proven its status as a leading year-end cultural event, drawing an explosive response from visitors in a short period since its opening on December 12, 2025.
According to Seoul City, this year's Seoul Light Gwanghwamun attracted a total of approximately 1.37 million visitors over the first 10 days following its opening. This figure is about 83% higher than last year's total attendance of 750,000, demonstrating sustained high interest and participation from the outset of the event.
The event has already surpassed last year’s total achievements in a short period, further boosting expectations for its continued success this year.
This year’s festival combined light and sound to captivate citizens, and was designed around citizen participation, making it easy for people of all ages to enjoy. In particular, the Sejong Pavilion, which was set up along the entire Gwanghwamun Square, as well as the Unsu Daetong-ro made of blocks and the Ilwol Obongdo Wishing Wall, were arranged to create a natural flow for visitors and provide ideal spots for photos. This attracted not only families, but also younger generations and tourists.
With Christmas approaching, the festival’s light and sound displays are expected to reach their peak, blending with the year-end atmosphere. Since admission is free, couples, friends, and families can all enjoy this year-end cultural content in the heart of the city. For citizens looking to create special memories during Christmas and the year-end season, Seoul Light Gwanghwamun is set to become a must-visit winter photo spot that can be enjoyed without any burden.
Choi Inkyu, Director of Design Policy at Seoul City, said, "The Seoul Light Gwanghwamun event, which combines cutting-edge media technology with world-class content, is being held successfully thanks to the enthusiastic response from many citizens and tourists. I hope this Gwanghwamun light festival will be a special experience to close out 2025 and welcome the new year of 2026."
Meanwhile, the 2025 Seoul Light Gwanghwamun festival will continue to be held around Gwanghwamun Square until January 4, 2026, and detailed visitor information can be found through Seoul City's official channels.
