Deokso Station Confirmed as a Weekend KTX-Eum Stop
Emerging as a Transportation Hub in Northeastern Seoul Metropolitan Area
Securing Both Gangneung Line and Jungang Line KTX Services
Advancing as a Major High-Speed Rail Hub in Northeastern Seoul Metropolitan Area
With the expansion of KTX-Eum operations on the Jungang Line connecting Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul and Bujeon Station in Busan starting on December 30, Namyangju City announced on December 23 that Deokso Station has been newly added as a stop and that the city considers this a meaningful achievement together with its citizens.
As a result of this measure, some KTX-Eum trains will stop at Deokso Station on weekends starting January 3 next year.
The city expects that this new stop will serve as an opportunity for Namyangju’s transportation environment to take a significant leap forward.
The Jungang Line KTX-Eum is a high-speed train that reaches a maximum speed of 260 km/h, serving as a key route in the national railway policy by connecting the Seoul metropolitan area, Chungbuk and Gyeongbuk in the central inland, and the Busan-Ulsan region in about three hours.
Until now, the city has continuously requested that Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) add a KTX-Eum stop at Deokso Station.
The city anticipates that this new stop will not only expand high-speed rail access for citizens nationwide, but also have a positive impact on the overall development of the region.
However, since this stop will only apply to some weekend trains, the city plans to actively request the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and KORAIL to increase the number of KTX-Eum stops, including on weekdays.
A Namyangju City official stated, "With KTX-Eum now stopping at Deokso Station in addition to the existing Gangneung Line KTX, the scope of high-speed rail service for Namyangju has been further expanded. We will actively promote train operation information so that citizens can use the railway more conveniently, and focus on reducing the burden of long-distance travel."
Meanwhile, Gangneung Line KTX trains currently stop at Deokso Station on weekends, and with the addition of Jungang Line KTX-Eum stops, Deokso Station is expected to strengthen its role as a major high-speed rail hub in the northeastern part of the Seoul metropolitan area.
