Travel Time from Hanam to Gangnam to Be Reduced to Around 40 Minutes
Songpa-Hanam Line Metropolitan Railway Aims to Open in 2032
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 23rd that it has issued a bid notice to select contractors for the turnkey construction of sections 2, 3, and 4 of the Songpa-Hanam Line metropolitan railway project, which are under the province’s jurisdiction.
This bidding process will be conducted as a turnkey (design-build) project, which allows for a shortened construction period and encourages creative design and construction solutions. Construction companies wishing to participate must submit their pre-qualification (PQ) documents by January 9 of next year. The province previously held a preliminary briefing session for construction companies in September.
In line with the government’s policy to expedite transportation measures for the third phase of new towns, the province completed administrative procedures such as reviewing the bidding method and the bid guidebook within four months of the approval of the basic plan for the Songpa-Hanam Line.
The Songpa-Hanam Line metropolitan railway project will connect Ogeum Station on Seoul Subway Line 3 to Hanam City Hall Station, covering a total distance of 11.7 kilometers. The line will pass through central Seoul as well as the new towns of Gamjeil and Gyosan in Hanam. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with the aim of opening in 2032.
Once the Songpa-Hanam Line opens, accessibility to Seoul for residents of Hanam and Gyosan new towns will be greatly improved. The public transportation travel time from Hanam City Hall to Gangnam Express Bus Terminal is expected to be reduced from the current 70 minutes to 40 minutes. In addition, the large-scale construction project is expected to have a ripple effect, revitalizing the local economy.
Kim Yurae, Director of Railway Construction at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will actively support the participation of construction companies with strong technical capabilities in the Songpa-Hanam Line metropolitan railway project. Through the selection of excellent contractors and close cooperation, we will thoroughly prepare and proceed to provide high-quality railway services to the residents of the province."
