Future Mobility Blueprint to Be Unveiled Early Next Year... Public-Private Consultative Body to Announce Roadmap

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Holds Mobility Innovation Growth Forum Steering Committee and Seminar

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on December 24 that it will convene the Mobility Innovation Growth Forum Steering Committee to discuss the '2030 Mobility Innovation Growth Roadmap,' which is scheduled to be unveiled early next year. On the same day, a policy seminar will be held, featuring a presentation on autonomous driving, one of the core topics of the roadmap.

The Mobility Innovation Growth Forum is an expanded version of the Mobility Innovation Forum, which was established in 2023 as a platform for public-private cooperation in the mobility sector. The government chair is held by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, while the private sector chair is Professor Jung Jin-hyuk of Yonsei University, a former president of the Korean Society of Transportation.

The 2030 Mobility Innovation Growth Roadmap to be discussed at the Steering Committee meeting will outline mid- to long-term policy directions for five key AI-based mobility sectors: autonomous driving, urban air mobility, carbon neutrality, everyday mobility, and urban and spatial mobility. This is the second report following the Mobility Innovation Roadmap released in September 2022.

The roadmap will include measures such as the full-scale demonstration of Level 4 autonomous driving for commercialization by 2027, regulatory rationalization, priority commercialization of urban air mobility (UAM) public services by 2028, localization of core drone technologies, battery life cycle management, introduction of hydrogen-powered trains, expansion of demand-responsive transport (DRT) systems, and advancement of digital twins. The final plan will be confirmed after gathering input from various stakeholders and deliberation by the Mobility Innovation Committee early next year. The number of working groups will also be increased to implement discussion topics into actual policies. Each working group will submit a results report to the Steering Committee in June and December. Policy seminars on autonomous driving services will be held quarterly in March, June, September, and December.

At the policy seminar held on this day, Bae Seongho, Director of Mobility at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will present on the roadmap. This will be followed by a presentation from Ahn Kyujin, Vice President of Kakao Mobility, on 'The Future of Mobility Evolving through Autonomous Driving Experience (AX),' and Han Ji-hyung, CEO of Autonomous A2Z, on 'Success Factors for the Activation of Autonomous Driving Services.' A panel discussion with participants from academia and research institutes is also scheduled.

Kang Hee-eop, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "The pace of innovation is accelerating with the transition to AI, and connectivity between modes of transportation is being further strengthened. We will expedite the commercialization of future mobility services so that the public can experience the benefits, and we will enhance public-private cooperation to ensure these become new engines of growth."
