Chonnam National University College of Medicine and Mokpo National Hospital announced on the 23rd that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to foster essential regional medical personnel and strengthen cooperation in public healthcare.
The signing ceremony, which was recently held at the office of the director of Mokpo National Hospital, was attended by Park Seungkyu, Director of Mokpo National Hospital, as well as Park Sangwoo, Vice Dean of Chonnam National University College of Medicine, and faculty members from the Department of Pulmonology, among other officials.
Recently, local healthcare sites have been facing complex challenges, including a shortage of specialized medical professionals, gaps in essential medical services, and an increase in chronic diseases due to an aging population. In response, the two institutions agreed to establish a regionally-based model for training medical personnel and to expand educational opportunities so that medical students can experience public healthcare settings firsthand and deepen their understanding of regional healthcare.
Under this agreement, Mokpo National Hospital will provide clinical experience and field data in essential regional medical fields such as tuberculosis and respiratory diseases for educational purposes, while Chonnam National University College of Medicine will participate in educational programs related to tuberculosis, public healthcare awareness, and clinical practice.
In addition, the two institutions plan to cooperate in various areas, including: operating educational and field training programs for Chonnam National University medical students to enhance their understanding of regional healthcare; jointly organizing academic events and other programs related to regional healthcare; and collaborating on clinical practice, volunteer work, and research activities in essential regional medical fields.
Park Seungkyu, Director of Mokpo National Hospital, stated, "This agreement marks the starting point for cooperation to jointly consider and address the realities of local healthcare. I hope that by experiencing public healthcare settings firsthand, medical students will come to understand the value of regional healthcare and grow into the talent that will lead essential regional medical services in the future."
