Recognized for Ensuring Proper Rice Production and Strengthening Food Security
Improving Quality of Life for Seniors Through Customized On-Site Welfare Programs
Cheongdo County, led by County Governor Kim Hasu, has demonstrated outstanding administrative capabilities encompassing both agriculture and welfare by consecutively winning the 'Excellence Award' in major policy evaluations organized by North Gyeongsang Province.
On December 18, Cheongdo County received the Excellence Award in the '2025 North Gyeongsang Province Food Policy Evaluation.'
This evaluation comprehensively assessed the implementation of food policies across 22 cities and counties in the province, including appropriate rice production, fostering the food industry, and securing budgets.
This year, the county strengthened its food production foundation through initiatives such as support for organic fertilizers and soil conditioners, joint pest and disease control for rice, and assistance with medium- and small-sized agricultural machinery.
In particular, Cheongdo County received high praise for expanding its food self-sufficiency base by actively encouraging the cultivation of alternative and strategic crops, moving beyond a rice-centered agricultural structure.
The county also stood out for its achievements in the welfare sector.
Cheongdo County achieved another milestone by winning the Excellence Award in the evaluation of the 'Senior Center Happiness Instructor' program, aimed at enhancing senior welfare.
Currently, 20 happiness instructors and 5 instructors visit senior centers in Cheongdo County daily to provide customized programs such as health exercises, art classes, and counseling.
Notably, the program has been expanded as a key pledge of the 8th popularly elected administration, and its tailored operation-reflecting feedback from the field-has been highly regarded for revitalizing senior centers and contributing to the emotional well-being of seniors.
Kim Hasu, Governor of Cheongdo County, credited these achievements to the dedication of farmers who have done their best in the field despite worsening agricultural conditions, as well as the efforts of those involved in supporting senior welfare.
He added, "We will continue to proactively respond to changing circumstances, establish a sustainable foundation for food production, and consistently develop highly effective welfare policies so that our seniors can enjoy a healthy and happy retirement."
Meanwhile, Cheongdo County plans to use this recognition as an opportunity to focus on developing food policies tailored to regional characteristics, securing national and provincial funding, and further enhancing the Senior Center Happiness Instructor program to simultaneously boost agricultural competitiveness and the sense of welfare among residents.
