TK New Airport Expands Beyond Passenger Services
Toward an Industrial Airport Model
Uiseong County is emerging as a key logistics hub for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport. With the official inclusion of the Uiseong cargo aircraft exclusive terminal in the national civil aviation basic plan, the vision for an airport-centered aviation industry city has gained significant momentum.
Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport Civil Aviation Basic Plan Reflects ‘Uiseong Cargo Aircraft Exclusive Terminal’
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport specified the plan to establish a cargo aircraft exclusive terminal in Uiseong in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport civil aviation basic plan announced on December 19. In response, Uiseong County welcomed the move, calling it "a significant turning point officially reflected in the national plan."
The Uiseong cargo aircraft exclusive terminal included in this basic plan will cover a total area of 68,083 square meters. The main facilities will include a cargo terminal (10,000㎡), a cargo apron (40,000㎡), a parking lot (5,000㎡), and a taxiway (13,083㎡). The total project cost is 8.53 billion won, including 1.2 billion won for compensation.
As an independent terminal equipped with dedicated cargo aircraft infrastructure, it is evaluated as a strategic facility that goes beyond a simple auxiliary facility.
In particular, on adjacent land near the cargo terminal, North Gyeongsang Province is also pursuing the development of a related industrial complex.
North Gyeongsang Province plans to gradually establish an aviation maintenance complex (43,000㎡), additional expansion land (56,000㎡), and an aviation logistics complex (1,000,000㎡), building an aviation logistics and aviation industry cluster centered on Uiseong. This will concretize the model of an "industrial airport" that combines logistics, maintenance, and industrial functions.
Kim Joosoo, Governor of Uiseong County, stated, "Through the announcement of the civil aviation basic plan, the Uiseong cargo aircraft exclusive terminal has been officially recognized at the national level," adding, "We will focus all administrative capabilities and work closely with North Gyeongsang Province so that Uiseong can grow as a key hub for aviation logistics and the aviation industry."
The Uiseong County Integrated New Airport Relocation Support Committee, which has served as a bridge for public-private cooperation, also welcomed the decision. Chairman Park Jeongdae emphasized, "The Uiseong cargo aircraft exclusive terminal has been a key issue with its necessity consistently raised from the beginning. Now that the direction is clear, the project must be promoted consistently without delay."
The inclusion of a cargo aircraft exclusive terminal in the civil aviation basic plan demonstrates that the Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport is evolving beyond a passenger-focused airport to one that encompasses industry and logistics. With Uiseong now positioned as a pillar of the national aviation logistics strategy, this inclusion is closer to a 'confirmation' than a mere 'declaration' of the region's development vision.
