The Liberal Arts Education Council of Universities in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions held a general meeting at the main building of Tongmyong University in Busan on the afternoon of December 19, and unanimously elected Professor Jung Eunsang as the next president. Professor Jung will lead the council throughout 2026, promoting cooperation in liberal arts education and joint development among regional universities.
The council is a consultative body comprised of 20 four-year universities in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions. It operates to strengthen the public role of university liberal arts education and to seek region-based cooperation models amid rapidly changing social and educational environments.
In particular, the council has made the shared responsibility for liberal arts education in connection with the local community its core task, and is promoting inter-university collaborative education and the development of joint programs.
The council regularly holds steering committee meetings, general assemblies, and workshops in collaboration with the National Council for University Liberal Education. It is also building a nationwide liberal arts education network through cooperation with regional councils in Gangwon, Chungcheong, Honam, as well as the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions.
Jung Eunsang, the newly appointed president, stated, "Liberal arts education is a core area that embodies the public nature and social responsibility of universities beyond major education," and added, "Universities in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions will create shared values through liberal arts education and establish a cooperative model for growing together with the local community." He continued, "By sharing experiences and achievements among universities, I will lead a qualitative leap in regionally tailored liberal arts education."
Meanwhile, Dean Jung Eunsang has served as the Dean of the College of Creative Convergence at Kyungnam University, leading innovation in liberal arts education and the advancement of convergence curricula, and has also worked to establish liberal arts education models linked to the local community.
