Library Company, a performance planning agency, announced on December 22 that it will stream the premiere performance of the original musical "Ginginbam" for free on its official Naver TV channel at 8 p.m.
"Ginginbam" is based on the picture book of the same name by author Luri, published in 2021. The story follows Norden, the last white rhinoceros on Earth, and a young penguin hatched from an abandoned egg, as they journey across a long night toward the sea. The musical weaves emotions of loss, solidarity, and growth into its fairy tale narrative, leaving a deep impression on audiences of all ages.
Library Company adapted the fairy tale into a musical and premiered it last year. The production was recognized for its artistic merit, being nominated for both the Grand Prize and Best Production (for theaters with fewer than 400 seats) at the 9th Korea Musical Awards in January this year.
The company explained that December 22, the day "Ginginbam" will be released for free, is the winter solstice, the longest night of the year. This symbolically aligns with the musical's title, and the event was organized to offer comfort and encouragement to those enduring their own "long nights."
During the live performance, a real-time comment event will be held, with various prizes such as invitation tickets to the show, program books signed by the entire cast, and mobile gift certificates to be given away through a drawing. In addition, a 50% time sale for tickets to "Ginginbam" will be available for three days, through December 24, for those who reserve tickets.
"Ginginbam" held an encore performance earlier this year and is scheduled for a revival run at Link Art Center Dream, Dream Hall 1, from January 21 to March 29 next year.
In the upcoming production, the role of Norden, the white rhinoceros who loses his family and friends and seeks revenge against humans, will be played by Hong Woojin, Kang Jungwoo, and Lee Hyunghoon. The young penguin, who narrates the story and travels with Norden, will be portrayed by Choi Jueun, Seol Gaeun, Choi Eunyoung, and Lim Hayoon. Angabu, a sociable rhinoceros from Paradise Zoo, and Wimbo, a kind-hearted penguin, will be played by Park Geunsik and Do Yoohyun. Chiku, who risks everything to protect the egg, will be played by Yoo Donghoon and Lee Gyuhak.
