Songpa District Sledding Park to Open as 'Ice Sledding Park' on the 27th

Open Until January 25 Next Year
75-Meter Ice Slide Created in Response to Climate Change

Songpa District in Seoul is introducing a sledding park that uses ice instead of snow in response to rising winter temperatures. Songpa District (headed by Mayor Seo Gangseok) will operate the '2025 Songpa District Haha Hoho Snow Sledding Park' at the Garden Five Life Central Plaza from December 27 to January 25 next year.

The biggest change this year is the use of ice instead of snow. Due to recent increases in winter temperatures, maintaining a stable supply of snow has become difficult, so the traditional snow slopes have been replaced with ice slopes. This climate-adaptive winter playground allows more people to enjoy winter activities regardless of the weather.

The large ice slope is a 75-meter-long ice tube slide that can be used by elementary school students in grades 1 to 6 (at least 120 cm tall). The smaller slope, made of ice blocks, is 35 meters long and is suitable for children aged 5 to 7. For younger children who may have difficulty using the slopes, a traditional ice sledding area has also been set up, along with an igloo and a photo zone.

Regular programs include winter sports such as curling, traditional folk games, and an igloo Arctic experience. On weekends, family performances such as magic shows and puppet plays will be added, transforming the space into an interactive cultural venue.

Safety and convenience have also been enhanced. An automatic sled conveyor system has been installed, and safety personnel are stationed at all times. A smart waiting system has been introduced, allowing visitors to receive a queue ticket via a reservation app on-site and check their entry order in real time.

The 'Haha Hoho Snow Sledding Park' will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. without any holidays. Up to 400 people can enter at the same time, and all children of elementary school age or younger can use the facilities free of charge.

Through a business agreement with Garden Five Life, the venue and infrastructure are being provided free of charge, saving approximately 90 million won in the budget. This year, the 'Haha Hoho Water Playground' attracted 20,704 visitors over 23 days, and Garden Five Life's July sales increased by 6% compared to the same month last year.

Seo Gangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "This year's 'Haha Hoho Snow Sledding Park' has been newly designed as a winter playground using ice in response to climate change. We will do our best to ensure that children can laugh freely and parents can enjoy peace of mind while making joyful memories."
