Urban Regeneration to Be Promoted in Four Locations Including Saengyeon-dong, Dongducheon... 40.4 Billion Won in National Funding Secured

Four locations, including Saengyeon-dong in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province, have been selected as urban regeneration project sites.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced on December 19 that four locations within the province were among the 48 sites nationwide selected in the "2025 Second Half Urban Regeneration Public Contest" promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The four selected locations are: Saengyeon-dong in Dongducheon and Gapyeong-eup in Gapyeong County for the "Aging Residential Area Maintenance Support Project"; Munsan-eup in Paju for "Regional Specialized Regeneration"; and Anyang 4-dong in Anyang for the "Recognition Project." Each site will receive between 5 billion and 15 billion won in national funding over a period of three to five years.

Previously, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport conducted a written review for the 38th Urban Regeneration Special Committee from December 5 to 12.

This public contest was conducted for local governments nationwide, comprehensively evaluating local conditions, project feasibility, and ripple effects. The contest categories included the "Aging Residential Area Maintenance Support Project," which aims to improve residential conditions in old low-rise neighborhoods; "Regional Specialized Regeneration," which utilizes regional assets; and the "Recognition Project," which swiftly expands point-based infrastructure.

Son Imseong, Director General of Urban Housing at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, stated, "We will spare no effort to support the successful implementation of these selected projects," adding, "We will continue to work closely with cities and counties to provide systematic consulting and actively strive to ensure that effective projects are selected."

Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government continues to achieve the highest number of successes nationwide in government-led urban regeneration public contests by cooperating with cities, counties, and urban regeneration support centers to revitalize declining old downtown areas. Currently, a total of 108 urban regeneration projects are underway, including 32 Gyeonggi-style urban regeneration projects.
